Ok, so this has me completly confused. Everytime I click on a link that someone has posted, it marks all the topics in the forum that I havent read yet, as read. So I have a lot of work to do trying to find new posts.
understandably this is slightly frustrating.
Is there anyway I can fix this without avoiding using the posted links? |

I think this is a bug with the phpbb system, because I haven't yet found a fix for it.
The only thing I can suggest in the meantime is to manually highlight and copy the link address, and then open it in a new window.
What you can also do, is use the new posts since last visit function:
http://wildspeak.com/forum/search.php?search_id=newposts
If you use that, and always keep that open in one window, it doesn't matter if everything gets marked as read because you still have that to refer back to. |

I have the same problem, and it's very irritating to keep track of new content. I can't use the "posts since last visit" option because it counts everything as "read" already. : (
The only posts that appear as "new" are posts I made myself, once in a while (like if I close the window and come back later while I'm still logged in). So it's not very useful to read new posts/topics from other people.
I also get logged off after a while no matter what, in spite of having checked the "keep me logged in" option. : ( I don't know if this is related; in any case, whenever I log here, everything is marked as "read". _________________ http://akhila.feralscribes.org/ |

Generally speaking, when there's a problem with read posts constantly showing up as 'unread,' there tends to be a problem with the user's cache / cookies system re: .php forums.
I've got the log in function set on long-term, and get bumped off by my computer about once every two weeks to a month.
As for the read situation, it is a common problem that comes up with .php boards in general, and is heavily influenced by the user's cache. I have it myself on other .php forums (though not here).
What helps me, is to set topics to 'notify me when a reply is posted.' There's a check box under every reply, or you can manually change your settings in your profile. This way, I get an email to let me know if something's been replied to (that I've participated in) regardless of whether the topic shows as read or not.
As for new topics, I have missed things here and at other .php forums intermittently in the past. It is part of the nature of the beast, methinks, but unfortunately I know more about .php than any other forum system, and as I said in another thread, offer this service for free, and don't have the time to learn a computer code; nor - for that matter - the aptitude. |

I'm posting on other phpBB forums and here is the only places where I have had such issues, so I'm not sure it's about my cookies. : / I might have to use the "notify me when a reply is posted" option, but I didn't check this because I tend to get a lot of junk in my mailbox so it doesn't help me keeping track of stuff so well. I also tend not to check my mailbox as often as I check communities/forums. ^^
Thanks for your help in any case! _________________ http://akhila.feralscribes.org/ |
